I started writing about the kidnapped girl getting taken through the snowy woods toward an ominous and deadly lake.
The castles and the snow and just the magic of living in such an old and beautiful place put me in the mindset of dreaming about fantasy. But the inspiration for this book specifically popped up when I was studying abroad in France in 2010. I loved Disney movies and fairy tales and soon realized writers could spin them into whole new stories.
